Turn Five - It's All Over Now!
The first thing Gerald does is re-order the veteran knights to his rear. These were the same knights that had driven off the border horse, remember them?. This order will cost him 2 command points. One for the action and one for being out of the battle line.
Gerald goes for the throat and charges the knights as they falter on the edge of the world (as they know it). He uses his free Warlord command to charge and plays a king for a bonus of 2 combat dice.
The melee is bloody and decisive, driving the Germans off the table.
Gerald must now make a personal combat test. There has been no time or free command points to send Sir Percy to the rear under guard so he has been amongst Gerald's men. He too must make a personal combat test. In a fluke of luck Gerald passes his test but Sir Percy fails. He is wounded lightly and must test for capture.
Sir Percy is re-captured or perhaps he actuall fought off his gurads, takeing a wound in the process and rejoined his knights as they fled the field. The knights join the border horse as they flee through the woods.
Gerald takes the German ground and breaks through into the hapless crossbows. These men put up a fight, but loose and automatically break.
The crossbows join the knights and border horse.
Otto now must make a battle line morale test. It doesn't look good and he knows it.
Otto fails by 10, this is crushing.
Otto offers terms and Gerald accepts. Click for larger picture.
The battle is over, Otto returns Gerald's prized banner. In the recap Otto gained 74 honor points while Gerald gained only 41. Otto gained 3 skill points and Gerald gained 2. Both increased their esteem from level 2 to level 3, and most importantly raised their social rank from 3 to 4. This in turn raised their household from 5 to 7. In game terms each will now draw 4 cards for army points and add their household of 7. This will give them an average of 27 army points vs. the 20 they had today. I hope you enjoyed this game as much as I did playing it. I must admit I was rooting for the Germans and after the first few turns felt sure they had it in the bag. The scenario was modeled after the battle of Bouvines in 1214 so I chose to not have any terrain on the battle field. I hope this gives you a better insight into Day of Battle 4. |
